This coffee comes from smallholder farmers in the Worka Chelbesa kebele, Gedeb, known for its rich semi-forest environment perfect for growing shade-grown coffee. Produced at SNAP Specialty Coffee’s Danche wet mill, overseen by Negusse Debela, this coffee is processed with great care. Negusse operates two wet mills in Worka Chelbesa, including Danche, where washed, natural, and experimental lots are processed.
The Danche washing station sources cherries from about 600 local farmers who grow Wolisho and Dega varieties at altitudes of 1925 to 2300 meters. Each farmer’s plot is between 0.5 to 2 hectares, and cherries are brought to the station within 40 minutes of picking. After meticulous hand-sorting and drying on raised beds, the coffee undergoes further sorting to ensure only the highest quality beans are selected. The unique climate and traditional farming methods of Worka Chelbesa produce a vibrant and complex coffee, giving the coffee taste notes of Peach Schnapps, Papaya and Blossom Honey.
