Nordic Approach continue to offer an outstanding array of Colombian microlots and few are better than this beautiful washed lot from Miguel Angel Catrillon in Tarqui, Huila.
Finca El Prado was the 4th place winner in the Nordic Approach’s own ‘Tarqui Microlot Competition’ 2016 – an annual competition set-up & run to incentivise high-end producers to take additional care throughout the picking & processing stages in exchange for the potential of guaranteed purchases at high prices for winning producers & lots.
Miguel Angel has placed in the top 5 in both years of the competition so far with his two farms: El Prado and Finca El Pedregal.
This coffee represents one of the finest examples of the impact of terroir on a cup profile across all of Colombia.
It’s fully washed 100% Caturra and that aids the clarity in the cup, showing floral aroma, flavours of peach, apricot & demerara sugar with a perfectly balanced acidity.
Tarqui is a key growing region within Huila. It is in the Central Cordillera of the Andes Mountains, with coffee growing in altitudes up to 2000 masl, and rich, varied micro climates.
Miguel utilises controlled green housing for drying to achieve optimum moisture levels of 10.5-11% in 18-20 days.
This coffee is one of the most delicious Colombian coffee we’ve tasted in the past 2 years and we’re thrilled to have been able to secure just 5 x 24kg vaccum packed boxes – so it wont last long. It’s stunning drunk both as a filter through the chemex or as an espresso.
