DESCRIPTION

So nice we bought it twice! We are pleased to introduce our second coffee of the year from Rwamatamu Washing Station. Rwamatamu Coffee is a family-run coffee plantation and washing station located in Kiyube, in Rwanda’s Western Province. Founded in 2015 by husband and wife Rutaganda Gaston and Mukantwaza Laetitia, the business was established with a mission to fight local poverty by generating employment opportunities in coffee harvesting and processing.

Honey-processed Rwandan coffee is known for its vibrant sweetness and complex flavour profile, often showcasing notes of stone fruit, honey, and floral undertones. In this method, some of the coffee cherry’s mucilage is left on the bean during drying, giving the coffee a syrupy body and a rich, nuanced cup. Grown in Rwanda’s high-altitude regions where volcanic soil and ideal climate conditions enhance bean quality, this processing style bridges the brightness of washed coffees with the depth of natural, offering a unique tasting experience.
