DESCRIPTION

Burka Coffee Estate, founded in 1899 near Arusha, Tanzania, was joined by the neighboring Selian Estate in 1991. Coffee planting began in 1918, and today the estates are home to around 1.3 million shade-grown coffee trees. The farms also preserve 314 acres of forest and 250 acres of grassland.

The estate employs 200 permanent staff and up to 5,000 seasonal workers during harvest. Employees receive housing, 20% above the minimum wage, social security, union membership, and access to a credit union. The estate also places strong emphasis on healthcare, staff amenities, and community events to help retain their dedicated workforce each season.

Burka’s coffees are renowned for their high quality and backed by generations of agronomic expertise. This coffee is well balanced with flavour notes of malic fruit like green apples, and the syrupy sweetness of maple syrup and golden raisins.
