DESCRIPTION

Mondul Estate, established in 1931 and acquired by Burka Estates in 2007, is a 211-hectare farm in the Maasai region of Northern Tanzania. The estate employs around 200 permanent staff, with up to 5,000 seasonal workers during peak harvest. All permanent staff receive housing, social security, and union membership, with wages set 20% above the government minimum.

The estate prioritises conservation, maintaining Burka Forest, one of the last indigenous forests in Arusha, which supports diverse wildlife, including over 120 bird species. Mondul Estate uses sustainable methods like organic fertiliser production and water recycling at the wet mill. After processing, the parchment is dried on raised African tables, ensuring high-quality coffee that is cupped daily to assess each lot’s excellence.
