Description
Cafex Washing Station is run by a dedicated committee of 200 experienced coffee growers. Founded in 2006 by a Belgian-Burundian couple, the project blends traditional farming on ancestral lands with modern, sustainable practices to support local communities. Since its inception, Cafex has supported regional farmers with harvest-season challenges and consistent, high-quality coffee processing. It ensures fair, stable prices, offering farmers a more secure livelihood.
Gender inclusion is central to Cafex’s operations, with women playing key roles that boost household income and coffee traceability. A standout initiative is Cafex’s weekly payment program, providing farmers with regular income during harvest—unlike the months-long delays common elsewhere. This steady cash flow brings financial stability and helps families plan for the future.
In the cup, this lot is expressive and layered: creamy notes of strawberry yoghurt lead into the delicate florals of oolong tea, rounded out by a gentle spice of nutmeg on the finish. We are excited to have CAFEX back as it is such a great example of a exceptionally well processed natural coffee.
